What is a Company Key?
A company key is a secure and unique identifier issued to registered businesses, allowing them to access online government services. The corporation key acts as a digital passcode that verifies a company whenever it does business officially. A company key consists of a unique series of digits and/or characters. Example: 567894388
In different provinces the Corporation Key is named differently:
- Ontario – Ontario Company Key.
- Federal Corporation – Federal Corporation Key
- British Columbia – BC Company Password
- Quebec – Quebec ClicSEQUR Code
- Saskatchewan – Saskatchewan Access Code
- PEI – PEI Company Key
In the province of Ontario, companies registered with the Ontario Business Registry need a company key in order to keep company information private and secure. Companies can make a company key request through the registry to gain access to online filings and other essential services.
Why is a Company Key Important?
- Guarantee Secure Transactions
A company key will keep unauthorized individuals from gaining access and modifying a company’s legal forms. Only authorized employees will be able to submit business forms, update company information, or submit compliance forms with a company key.
- Compliance with Regulatory Requirements
Government agencies require companies to use a corporation key in making the necessary filings. Without it, companies will be facing issues with remaining in good standing and will be exposed to fines and litigation.
- Protection Against Fraud
With the increased risk of cyber-attack, a secure access key limits the chance of fraud and unauthorized alteration of business records. This protection maintains the business data in a state of integrity.
How Can I Get a Corporation Key?

In Ontario, businesses can obtain their corporation key through the Ontario Business Registry after making a company key request. If you have lost or misplaced your key, you can request a replacement by placing a Company Key order through us.
Access Your Corporation Key
In case of Federal incorporation you can find it on the “Corporate Information Sheet”, sent by email on your date of incorporation. You can find a corporation key on your email receipt from your annual return filed before September 15, 2021. If you still can’t find it you can request a new one.
Lost a Company Key?
No worries! Online Business Registry is an Official Intermediary of Service Ontario, who can help you to retrieve the company key from the government system. This process typically involves identity verification to prevent fraudulent claims. Please fill out the form to retrieve the company key.
